Who are Remap?

Remap is a charity that helps disabled people of all ages to live more independent lives. Our national network of skilled volunteers design and custom-make equipment free of charge.

We help to improve quality of life and increase independence for disabled people of all ages, providing solutions to everyday problems when there is nothing commercially available.

Our volunteers respond to thousands of requests for help every year and our service is provided free of charge.

A local branch in Plymouth has just launched and we need more volunteer support. Could you help us make things possible?

Volunteer roles currently available


In addition to leading the local branch, the chair will increase the charity’s profile to increase the number of referrals received and the number of active volunteers. The chair will be assisted by a Secretary and Treasurer. The branch meets once a month to share progress on projects and to meet socially. 

Are you

• Confident to lead and chair a monthly meeting

• Confident in computer skills and have access to a computer

• Willing to attend local events to promote the charities work

• Able to understand and follow external and internal policies and procedures


This role is to support the panel Chair and its members in the smooth running of the panel.

Are you

• Confident in computer skills and have access to a computer

• Comfortable organising the administration of a group

• Able to follow Remap policies and procedures

• Able to understand and apply our risk management system

• Able to keep people’s personal data safe


This role is for a conscientious person with practical finance/administration skills, who can work confidentially and carefully to support the Plymouth branch. This does not require professional bookkeeping skills, but you should be comfortable with managing payments and online banking transactions.

Are you

• Confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email

• Experienced in bookkeeping, budgeting, and planning income and expenditure

• Able to apply disability, equality, and inclusion practices

• Able to keep people’s personal data safe


Could you use your practical skills and ingenuity to help people with disabilities live fuller and more independent lives. The role involves meeting an individual who needs our help, then designing and making adaptions and equipment to meet a specific need. Requests for help come from health professionals or directly from the public. We only help where no existing product is commercially available. You will be joining a national network of makers with opportunities for collaboration and showcasing your work.

Are you

  • Confident in practical skills, working with metal, wood, plastic, or electronics.
  • Able to access private transport to make home visits to clients (expenses paid)
  • Able to access a workshop or makerspace
  • Confident to meet people and be an advocate for Remap
  • Able to attend a monthly branch meeting to discuss progress of projects
