Volunteer with CROPS

Type: Befriending / Companionship, Emotional / social support, Food / grocery delivery, Growing, Information / advice, Mutual aid

Location: Keyham

This small charity is based at Keyham Green Places in Plymouth.  It was incorporated over 20 years ago within a modest and purpose built community centre.  This is located in the unique setting of grounds comprised of trees, shrubs, grassland and vegetable growing areas.  Since its inception the charity has championed and supported community activities for both local and citywide residents. Over the years, it has earned a well deserved reputation for it work with young people.

In recent times, with the support, almost entirely comprised of volunteers, CROPS has developed a Food Bank service together with a range of community activities for local people.  Current plans include the operation of a Mans’ Shed project to help tackle the pressing problems of loneliness and isolation. This is in addition to the expected increase in Foodbank services and a resumption of its earlier and highly successful youth club that was a victim of the Covid pandemic.

Apart from financial challenges, future ambitions are frustrated by a shortage of volunteers to fulfil them and to develop the charity’s potential to provide more and better services. If this would interest you to join our team of volunteers, please get in touch with Roger Mitchell, a Trustee, who will explain more fully the opportunities we have to make a real difference to services  we provide in our local and wider Plymouth communities.  All skills, abilities and experiences will be welcomed.

We’d love to hear from you.
