We are looking for volunteers to support young people in the Plympton area as part of our combined Children’s Centre and Wellbeing Hub provision.

Our children’s services volunteers help the charity to deliver essential services in local communities, providing support to over 300,000 children, young people and their families. This role provides a great opportunity to join our fantastic children’s services and help make a real difference.
Young Person’s Group Helpers work across a range of groups supporting young people during their transition from being a young person to an adult. Groups tend to focus on a specific group or need, such as Care Leaver’s, Mental Wellbeing, LGBT+ Identifying Young people, Older Young Carers or Young Offenders.
As a Wellbeing Hub, The Rees Centre aims to support our local residents, including children and young people, in accessing information and activities to improve their overall wellbeing. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who would like to invest their time in making a difference to young people’s lives; who are friendly and approachable with the ability to engage young people in taking steps to overcome problems, and improve their self-confidence and mental health
The roles we are looking to fill are as follows:
LGBTQ+ peer support group facilitator. Currently runs 4.30-5.45pm on the 1st Wednesday of the month but hopefully changing to a Tuesday 5.30-6.30 alt weeks with enough support. For young people aged 12-16. Lived experience of the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ young people an advantage. Includes planning and delivering supportive sessions alongside the group lead.
Youth wellbeing sessions supporter. Based at The Rees Centre, Wednesdays 3.30-6pm. Being on hand to offer a safe space for young people aged 11-16 after school during term time. Offering information, advice, and signposting (including contraception). Supporting the group lead to deliver a schedule of wellbeing related activities which run from 4.30-5.45 inc setting up and packing away.
Detached youth work supporter.
Working with Plymouth Youth Services to engage young people on the streets of Plympton. Thursday evenings 5.30-8.30pm
No experience necessary but must be confident in interacting with young people aged 11-16; a good listener; and able to uphold confidentiality and safeguarding policies. Willing to demonstrate Barnardo’s values in your voluntary role.
All roles are subject to successful completion of Barnardo’s volunteer induction training (online at your own pace); provision of two character references and enhanced DBS check.
