Saltram has a network of nearly 300 volunteers that help as many people as possible utilise and benefit from this space. We cannot function without this team and there are points in the year where we really need help to top up our numbers. The roles are varied. You may be helping a disabled person to access our collections, or working in the garden to conserve a heritage bed. Sometimes we need help to offer Christmas and summer holiday experiences if you want a short term role. Otherwise we have roles that are intrinsic to the conservation of this precious house and collection such as archive volunteer or conservation support. If you prefer an outdoor challenge we have biodiversity work to support or general ranger/gardener tasks. Something for everyone with friendship included in all.
The current roles include:
House Room guide, Events Steward and Outreach volunteer, Arts & crafts group support.
Some people complete a little of all and others pick one specific role.
All roles are people facing and require friendly, approachable people that love Saltram and are able to pass on that interest to others.
If you are interested in volunteering with us we would bring you in for an interview, have a chat about your experiences, skills and interests. You can then decide which role(s) you would be better suited to.
Each role has a team to work with and this brings a great sense of friendship and belonging.
These roles require that you work with members of the public but some more so than others.
You will learn about the house and it’s history, helping us to then share it with visitors in fun ways.
House Room guides, help visitors to understand the property across 5 days a week 10:30-4
Events Stewards come along to specific events and help us to guide guests around the event safely. Our first event is May 25th.
Outreach volunteers help us to survey the public to make sure that Saltram is offering accessible, relevant and positive experiences for all.
Arts & crafts group support volunteers help us to understand art at Saltram and prepare for display events such as Easter and Christmas.
