Location: All of Plymouth

Livewell Southwest is an independent, award-winning social enterprise providing integrated health and social care services for people across Plymouth, South Hams and West Devon, as well as some specialist services for people living in parts of Devon and Cornwall.

Livewell Southwest is looking for a compassionate, polite and friendly volunteer to support patients and staff in wards.

Livewell Southwest is at the forefront of integrating health and social care, which means that it cares for people in new ways that are more efficient, with health and social care professionals who would have previously worked in individual teams now working together.

This helps them to deliver the right care for people, in the right place and at the right time.

You will find their teams in community hospitals, GP practices, sports centres, health and wellbeing hubs, at community events and even at football matches.

In 2019, Livewell Southwest was inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and received a rating of ‘good’ overall. Its mental health inpatient unit (Glenbourne) and community learning disabilities team received an exceptional rating of ‘outstanding’.

Livewell Southwest is looking for a compassionate, polite and friendly volunteer to support patients and staff in wards. Making connections and spending time with patients can make a positive difference to their recovery and rehabilitation. This is an important role and can change a patient’s experience of their hospital stay.

This can vary from one to two hours per week, to one to two days per week. We suggest that we ask for the commitment for a minimum of six months.

The Role

  • To talk/chat to and visit patients.
  • To support and encourage participation in area of interest.
  • Working with patients and generally improving the whole experience for people in a productive way.
  • To play games/cards as required by the patients.
  • Sitting with patients during mealtimes, serving meals, dressing tables and generally improving the whole mealtime experience for people when they are dining on the wards.

Objectives:

  • To reduce any feelings of isolation/loneliness patients may experience
  • To help patients gain independence
  • To enhance their overall experience during their hospital stay
