Devon and Cornwall Refugee Support (DCRS) provides advocacy, advice, support, education, recreational activities and a welcoming communal space for asylum seekers in the region.
Our aim is to promote independence, prevent destitution and encourage integration of our service users into the local community.

In order to deliver our services we rely on the support of a large team of volunteers. We have opportunities in various roles including;
Auxiliary case work support- Involves working directly with caseworks and service users. Tasks are varied and will include assisting with administrative and advocacy tasks to support our service users asylum immigration case. Minimum one day per week, Monday- Friday.
Office admin support- Involves working directly with staff to assist with general admin duties to help our busy office run smoothly and to allow us to expand on our temporary and long term projects. Tasks are varied and often changing but could include collating information, updating and maintaining documents, uploading information onto client database, answering phones, engaging supporters, filing. Minimum one day per week, Monday- Friday.
Activities and drop in centre support- Involves helping to facilitate our city centre drop in service, engaging with service users, making tea and coffee, promoting and/or delivering activities, signposting service users to third party activities, leading/assisting walks and sporting opportunities. Minimum one day per week, Monday- Friday.
English class teachers/ support teachers- We deliver three drop in English classes per week from our centre centre office. Our classes are informal and suitable for mixed abilities. We are recruiting teachers and supporting volunteering to help students with reading, writing and speaking based activities. Minimum 3 hours on Monday or Thursday afternoons, Wednesday mornings.
Our office hours are Monday – Friday, 9am-4.30. Minimum commitment one day per week.

We are looking for volunteers with the following ethos and skills:
- A commitment to the rights of refugees and asylum seekers
- Working knowledge of office equipment, like printers and fax machines
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise work
- Good attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to multi-task
- A non-judgemental attitude and the ability to work impartially and sensitively with clients from diverse backgrounds
- Maintaining professional conduct and complying with DCRS ethical standards and boundaries
- Observe and protect client confidentially at all times
- Punctual and reliable
