Summerhouse Services is a Plymouth based non-profit organisation devoted to and passionate about the holistic promotion of positive mental health for children, young people and those that inhabit their world through a range of person-centred, humanistic and creative training and support services. (See www.summer-house.org) These include mental health focused workshops for practitioners that work with young people e.g. ‘Self Harm & Young People’ & ‘Eating Difficulties & Young People’, a new parent /carer supportive training programme and children & young people’s workshops and courses e.g. ‘The Story of the Amazing Bi-Polar Bear’, ‘Coping With Exams’, & DRIFTS (Developing Resilience in Free Thinking Spaces) an after school supportive resilience & mental health training and social group for young people 12-15 years. We will also be developing a counselling and befriending service in the near future for young people and associated adults We deliver services across the City, Devon and Cornwall and as far afield as Kent with the advent of Zoom. We prefer to work face to face but are equally happy developing engaging and informative services virtually. We work within schools and also at venues appropriate venues in the community.

We are looking for ‘people people’ who are compassionate, able to listen well, accepting, maybe creative and have a generally positive outlook and are able to work as part of a team. While some experience in working with young people and adults in some kind of supportive capacity and a basic awareness of general mental health in a non-clinical perspective may be helpful, this is not essential as you will be given full and comprehensive training and supportive supervision throughout your time with us.
Formal qualifications are not required and we feel that things like a willingness to have a go, a good sense of humour and fun and a good level of patience and tolerance are just as important.
The use of a car and a clean driving licence would be useful but is not essential.

It is an exciting time to get involved with Summerhouse Services, as we are a fledgling (registered in May this year) organisation that is very much evolving on a day to day basis. There are a number of roles that you could get involved with, depending on your preference, including assisting myself and other facilitators and trainers in the delivery of our mental health workshops and programmes to children, young people and adults, both within schools and youth establishments across Plymouth and the South West, and our venues in Saltash Social Club, The Black Cat Surf Club in Plymstock and Sainsbury’s Marsh Mills ! This would include helping with housekeeping such as sanitising, making drinks, giving out handouts and joining in with small and large group discussion and activities when you felt ready. You will also be given full training in how to support young people and adults that may come to you for support in these settings and how to supportively signpost or refer on. We pride ourselves on offering and promoting safe and effective working practices with regard to our services, as well as being relevant, engaging and enjoyable and again, full training will be given in this .There are also avenues in admin, promotion and marketing, helping with fund raising events and lots of other stuff too!

We promote inclusive working in all aspects of our organisation and welcome applications from all that are interested in what we do.
