Plymouth PIE Club CIC (Park-lifers in Exile) was set up by Martin Stephens who manages the Park cafes in Devonport, Victoria and Freedom Fields parks. This was in direct response to the elderly and vulnerable going into protective self-isolation as a result of the virus.
Our community organisation is volunteer-led and we provide the following services:
- Delivery of free wholesome meals twice weekly
- Essential shopping,
- Delivery of prescription medications,
- Welfare phone calls.
Although ‘lock-down’ is easing, many of our vulnerable service users have been advised by the NHS and Public Health to self-isolate for much longer – till the end of the year. In addition some of our volunteers are going back to work leaving our administration team short. Good administration is vital for the success of all our support services. Without good admin support many of our users will experience further hardship. Good administration ensures our elderly family receive their meals and volunteer support efficiently and effectively, reduces their anxiety.
